Science Fair Project
Krista's
BALLOON
TROOPERS!
Balloon Troopers are fearless volunteers who ride helium balloons high
into the atmosphere while performing high-risk, yet enormously-important scientific research missions. Our Troopers are made
from cardstock, cut out and colored, and then sealed within clear packing-tape "altitude suits" for protection from the
hostile conditions encountered at high altitude. Carried by each Trooper is a "mission paper" containing name, rank, serial
number, and contact information for our Ground Allies.
Those of us at Mission Control will observe weather patterns, wind speed,
wind direction, we will monitor the jet stream through the internet, and record this information at each launch. After being
launched, each Trooper fearlessly pursues our important scientific research, although they have been known to chase
the occasional rainbow.
If our Ground Allies (you) recover a Trooper, the Trooper will give
you information on what you can do to assist in the completion of his mission. Essentially, you will be asked to contact
us via email with the Trooper's name, rank, serial number, condition, location of recovery, and any details. With this information,
we will be able to plot the flight path on our Science Fair Project tactical coordination map and draw conclusions based on
the meteorological patterns that existed at the time of launch. If our Ground Allies could email a photo of the trooper, themselves,
or the location of the recovery, that would be great... perhaps the Trooper could be mailed back to us. I am sure that
our brave and fearless troopers would jump at the chance for a second mission.
While our Balloon Troopers do perform an occasional TOP SECRET military
mission, we generally leave the matters of national security to the TUFF GUY plastic Army Men over at "Balloon Trooper Headquarters".
Everything that you ever wanted to know about Balloon Troopers can be found at the Balloon Troopers HQ website.
Okay, speaking
of Balloon Trooper Headquarters, we shamelessly admit that we stole many ideas from them. Many thanks to the "kids" both young
and old at this site who are responsible for our inspiration!
If our project is a success and if we do indeed make a contribution to
Balloon Trooper science, it will only be because we have stood on the shoulders of giants, those who have gone before us.
And I guarantee that we will be having fun, regardless of the outcome. So, my sincerest appreciation to those who have shared
their knowledge and sparked our interest. Please visit the link below to find out more about Balloon Troopers!
